The Anatomy of a Stitch - How to Fix your Mistakes
You’ve learned a knit and a purl stitch, but it’s time to level up your knitting! This class will teach you how to “read” your stitches including how to tell if a stitch is twisted, what to do when you drop a stitch, and how to tell where you are in your pattern and in your knitting. Making mistakes in your knitting is no fun, but being able to troubleshoot and identify your mistakes before it’s too far gone and then fixing them will fill you with a joy and confidence unmatched!
You’ll Learn:
-
How to set a “life-line” in your work
-
How to read knit and purl stitches
-
How to tell if a stitch is twisted
-
Going back a few rows to do “surgery” on an earlier mistake
-
What to do when you drop a cast on stitch
-
What to do when you drop an increase/decrease
Skills required:
-
Basic knit/purl knowledge
Materials Needed/Homework:
Please come with a 8x8 inch swatch of stockinette fabric in a worsted or dk weight STILL ON YOUR NEEDLES (no need to bind off!). Use any needles that give you a comfortable fabric (I would try a US 7 with worsted weight). It doesn’t have to be perfect, we just want to work on a swatch made out of yarn that isn’t too splitty, isn’t too dark in color, and is enough stitches to see your work clearly. We will be working mistakes and dropping stitches from this swatch in order to practice.
Class Date/Time: Thursday Jan 23 from 6 - 8 pm
Teacher: Christy Taylor (@knittymathematician)
