Embroidery on Knitting
- Description
Have you seen the absolute masterpieces designed by @maika_f.a.m? She designs wearable art using a few simple techniques-intarsia and embroidery. I was lucky enough to test knit the BREZZA vest and am now obsessed! In this class we will knit a small sample of a mountain scene using intarsia and will then embroider the details once the knitting is done. Think a mountain lake, trees, flowers, grasses.
What you will learn: knitting intarsia, embroidery on your knits
Skills needed: adventurous beginners can handle this class. Need to be able to cast on, work flat, knit and purl stitches.
In the first class we’ll learn how to knit intarsia and will talk about how to make your piece sturdy enough for embroidery.
In our second class we’ll talk about embroidering on your knits, picking stitches that will work with your piece, tension, and blocking when the piece is all done.
In our third class we’ll wrap things up, show off our pieces and I can help you make plans for your own wearable piece of art!
What you’ll need: DK weight yarn in various colors appropriate for sky, mountains, water, trees, flowers, grasses. Think seasonal palettes—your favorite season will keep you engaged and anxious to keep going. Sandness Garn Peer Gynt works well for this technique.
You also need a knitting needle one size smaller than you normally use for DK. Don’t worry about the yarn you’ll need for your embroidery. We’ll talk about that in our first class.
Come to the shop prior to the class and we can help you choose your yarn.
