KAL - Steeking Class

Finish off our Steeking KAL with a class to ease you through the pain of cutting your knitting, and welcome you to the other side where you have conquered a thing that scared you and have a beautiful finished cardigan to boot! This class will be for those who don’t need help with the casting-on, colorwork, or construction of their cardigan, but want a bit of guidance (and a team cheering you on!) as you steek your finished object. We’ll have instructions and materials available for those who want to secure their steek with crochet stitches or a sewing machine. Just bring your nearly finished object, and we’ll help you with the finishing touches that will make your garment shine!

You’ll Learn:

• How to secure your steek with a line of crochet stitches or a sewing machine.

• How to beautifully finish and cover your steeked stitches.

• Tips for how to work your button-band for even spacing.

Skills Required: 

• Enough knitting knowledge to knit a colorwork sweater/object in the round.

• Crochet experience is a plus if you are planning to secure your steek with crochet (only suitable for non-superwash yarns).

• Must come to class with an object ready to steek - most likely this will be a cardigan (though you don’t have to worry if the sleeves have yet to be knit!), but it could also be a cup cozy or something small to practice the skill on!

Materials Needed:

• Come with a finished object already knit.

• If you have sewing thread that matches your project we encourage you to bring it, but we will also have plenty in an array of colors.

• Crochet hook in appropriate size (choose one around the same size as the knitting needles used for your project).

• Buttons for cardigan if desired.
